Make Shabbat Boxes with Mitzvah Circle
Make Shabbat Boxes with Mitzvah Circle
Kol Shira’s Mitzvah Circle volunteers will gather to prepare Shabbat Boxes that will be distributed to clients of the Jewish Family Services (JFS) Food Pantry and to individuals receiving chaplaincy visits through JFS.
Each box contains candles, juice, challah, and a beautifully decorated container created by members of the community, offering a simple way for someone to welcome Shabbat.
The goal is to bring connection, dignity, and the experience of Shabbat to people who might otherwise be isolated while also bringing connection and opportunities of gemilut chasadim (acts of loving kindness) to the Kol Shmira community.
As Rabbi Cohen, Shalom Austin’s Community Chaplain, shared at a recent Kol Shira service, these boxes help ensure that recipients know the Jewish community is thinking about them during a difficult and often isolating time.
The activity will take place at the Dell JCC Campus.

Lay Leader Training for Shiva Minyans
Lay Leader Training for Shiva Minyans
An opportunity for Jewish learning and to support the Kol Shira community when Cantor Gostein is away: Learn how to help lead a shiva minyan service. We'll discuss ways one can comfort a mourner and learn skills for both musical and non-musical shiva minyan leadership. Cantor Gostein will guide you to use your strengths to partner with others to confidently lead the community in prayer with user-friendly materials that she has prepared for you and the congregation.

Shabbat Service and Torah Dedication!
Shabbat Service and Torah Dedication
Join us for a Kol Shira milestone event. We’ll gather to dedicate our Torah, received the previous week as a donation from a congregation in New York! This will be part of our Shabbat celebration, where as always we’ll sing and pray with Cantor Gostein and afterwards enjoy schmoozing and connecting over a Kol Shira oneg. Good for all ages. A very special occasion!

Purim and Pizza
Celebrate Purim!
Join us for fun Purim festivities for all ages.
At “Purim and Pizza” we’ll observe all four Mitzvot of Purim:
Reading the Megillah with the story of Esther
Enjoying a festive Purim meal
Sending gifts with a “white elephant” misloach manot or regift exchange
Gifts to the poor from bags made at our Day of Giving.
Come in costume!
Enjoy hamentaschen, pizza and potluck sides.
Pizza will be vegetarian but otherwise standard.
Feel free to bring gluten-free or lactose-free or other specialty or even non-pizza things as a potluck contribution.
Location: Dell JCC Campus
For Families with Kids: Play on the playground at 5pm, then come inside at 5:30pm for festivities.
